THE WEIGHT. QUEER ΧΡΥΣΟ ΛΙΟΝΤΑΡΙ 2012 ΣΤΟ ΦΕΣΤΙΒΑΛ ΒΕΝΕΤΙΑΣ

The Weight by Jeon Kyu-hwan
With The Weight, autodidact Korean writer-director Jeon Kyu-hwan tells the moving story of a lonely figure, Jung the hunchback. After a loveless childhood during which her foster mother exploited him, Jung finds a job in a mortuary where he cleans and prepares bodies for their funeral. In many ways, those corpses are his best friends. South-Korean star Cho Jae-hyun, in the part of Jung, pulls off an impressive and subtle performance.
Jeon Kyu-hwan is part of the South-Korean new wave with a heightened sensitivity and a taste for the grotesque. The Weight is a humanist odyssey showing how society´s misfits and outcasts go through life, with nobility and determination. Jeon Kyu-hwan´s naturalistic style perfectly fits the story´s mood.
