ΣΤΟΟΥΝΓΟΥΟΛ

The Stonewall Riots began late on the night of Friday, June 27, 1969, when New York City police officers raided New York’s most popular gay bar, the Stonewall Inn. This raid set off a popular uprising: a six-day series of protests, demonstrations, and confrontations between the city’s gay community and the police. The Stonewall Riots are historic because they transformed the small homophile movement into a mass movement that was militant by creating the Gay Liberation phase of the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered) civil rights movement.
